bespoke design
A key part of the brief for this project was curves. This was achieved using Computer Numeric Controlled (CNC) machinery to cut out the laminated veneer lumber (LVL) frames. A very hands-on collaboration between the client, the architect and the builder, the results speak for themselves.
Off-site manufacture
A complex build much simplified by conversion to kitset construction
VOLUME
double-height spaces
Use of double-height spaces at entry generates a feeling of luxury and makes a house feel much bigger than it really is.
LIGHT
north-west sun
Adding glazing in the right orientation and configuration generates a light-filled home.
FAMILY
open-plan areas
Open family areas with the kitchen as the hub combined with indoor/outdoor flow expands the living area beyond four walls.
INTERIOR
minimalist palette
Use of well-chosen timber, floor coverings and furnishings create the home's texture.
EXTERIOR
functional outdoor living
A covered alfresco area provides shade from the harsh NZ sun whilst maintaining outdoor amenity. Structured sight lines and landscape elements need to be well considered.
SMALLER LOTS
small or zero-lot design
The challenge of a small site requires innovative design; on a narrow or zero-lot site with a less-than-optimal orientation, a cut-out courtyard allows sun to reach every part of the home.
DETAIL
simple consideration of elements
In this stair assembly, 'form follows function'.
PREFAB
off-site manufacture
Curved decks can be constructed using the latest CNC technology and arrive on site in
kitset form.
PRE-VISION
3D modelling
Virtual Construction models allow the builder to understand the framing up stage before the pre-nail arrives on site.
